The Standard opened in 1999 with the financial support of Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Benicio del Toro and Smashing Pumpkins band members, D’arcy Wretzky and James Iha.The hotel shut its doors on January 22, 2021 after 22 years on the Sunset Strip. The Covid pandemic wrecked havoc on the hotel and tourism industry in Los Angeles.
