Dave Gillotte, President of LA County Fire Fighters Local 1014. He was coordinating fire resources from a razor back ridge on top of Mt. Wilson. He told me that the mountain top was “their dirt,” and the fire wasn’t going to take it away from them. He and his crew also chopped down “widow makers,” large trees that were half burned and that could fall and kill fire fighters.
Firefighters from Los Angeles County fought back the Bobcat fire from over taking the Mt. Wilson mountain top. The historic mountain is home to the Mt. Wilson Observatory, home of astrophysics, and a large array of television and communication antennae.
The Bobcat Fire is one of LA County’s largest fires with over 114 thousand acres burned.
