Description/Caption: A 3000 acre fire burned, named the Colby Fire, in the hills above Glendora, CA. Southern California is experiencing an unseasonable heat wave along with high winds. The area is also experiencing extreme drought conditions. The fire was fought with mostly water dropping aircraft and is now mostly extinguished.

The DaVinci Apartment complex, a seven-story apartment building under construction in downtown Los Angeles was destroyed today by a huge fire that damaged several three high-rise buildings and prompted hours-long freeway closures that affected scores of commuters. Arson investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.
